No sooner had our honeymoon ended than my husband pulled off his leather belt to teach me a lesson in obedience. He had no idea I was a trained MMA fighter ready for a sparring partner.

Chaos erupted in the enclosed apartment as smoke began pouring from the air vents. Mark frantically tapped on his control tablet, but the screen was locked in a crimson loop showing a single looping graphic: an hourglass overflowing with ash. The syndicate’s secure grid had been completely overridden from an external source.

“Who altered the override codes?!” Mark shouted at his unconscious guards, his former cold calm collapsing into sheer panic. He pointed his weapon at me, his hand trembling slightly. “What did you do, Sarah? What did your father set up?”

“My father didn’t do this,” I said quietly, the fog in my mind clearing as adrenaline wiped away the shock. “You built a plan around the idea that my dad was controlling everything. But you forgot one crucial detail about how intelligence networks operate.”

I didn’t wait for him to figure it out. As a flashbang canister bounced off the drywall and detonated near the entrance, blinding light and deafening thunder filled the room. I lunged low, driving my shoulder directly into Mark’s midsection, tackling him straight through the glass coffee table. We crashed onto the rug in a mess of shattered glass and tangled limbs.

Mark swung blindly with his pistol, but I grabbed his wrist, twisting it inward until the weapon clattered away across the floor. I drove a sharp elbow into his solar plexus, disarming his secondary grip on the detonator, and pinned his throat to the floor with my forearm—just like I had ten minutes earlier, but this time without any holding back.

“The satellite feed you used wasn’t sending data to Virginia,” I whispered into his ear over the ringing in our drums. “It was bouncing through a proxy server I set up three years ago. The moment your short-range cloner tried to access my biometric hash, it triggered an automatic counter-hack. You didn’t steal my father’s vault key, Mark. You gave my automated defense network access to your entire syndicate’s mainframe.”

Mark gasped for air, his eyes wide with horror as he realized the truth. “The… the message about your father…”

“A psychological trigger your team engineered to make me hesitate,” I said coldly. “My father is dead. I buried him myself. And you just spent six months playing the attentive fiancé just to deliver your entire organization’s server infrastructure straight into my lap.”

The front door was blown off its hinges with a sharp explosive pop. A specialized tactical unit clad in unmarked grey uniforms poured into the living room, securing the perimeter in seconds. Their commander stepped forward, lowering his rifle, and gave me a respectful nod.

“Target secured, Director Vance,” the commander announced. “The syndicate’s primary servers in London, Chicago, and Frankfurt have all been remote-wiped using the credentials extracted from his device. Their entire operations network is officially dark.”

I stood up, adjusting the straps on my MMA gloves, and looked down at the man who thought he had tricked me into a fake marriage to steal my life’s work.

“Take him into custody,” I ordered flatly. “And make sure he gets a very thorough lesson on what happens when you underestimate your wife.”

Mark was dragged away in handcuffs, speechless and completely broken, as the grey-uniformed team cleared the apartment. I walked over to the broken balcony window, looking out over the glowing skyline of the city. The honeymoon was officially over, but the war I had spent five years preparing for was finally won. I stripped off my gloves, tossed my fake wedding band into the rubble on the floor, and stepped out into the night air, completely free.
