Part 3 (FULL ENDING) . Thank you so much!
Part 3
For ten agonizing seconds, nobody moved. The entire hall watched the ghost of Clara Vance walk up the center aisle.
Her left leg dragged slightly, a permanent scar from the collision fifteen years ago, but her chin was held high. The silent authority in her posture froze Arthur dead in his tracks. His hand remained buried inside his tuxedo jacket, trembling visibly as she stopped at the foot of the stage.
“Take your hand out of your coat, Arthur,” my mother said, her voice rich, calm, and utterly devoid of fear. “There are four state troopers waiting in the lobby. You aren’t leaving this building with a company, and you certainly aren’t leaving with your freedom.”
Arthur’s mouth moved, but nothing came out. The monstrous patriarch who had terrorized our household, who had just smashed an honor cup into my skull to stage a public humiliation, suddenly looked shriveled and frail. Slowly, he pulled his empty hand out of his jacket, letting out a ragged, defeated breath as two campus officers stepped up behind him and forced his arms behind his back.
Dean Harrison nodded toward the rear entrance. Within moments, two state troopers marched down the carpeted aisle, placing Arthur in real steel handcuffs. As the metal clicked shut, the heavy silence broke into an uproar of furious murmurs. Uncle Ray and the board members immediately turned their backs on Arthur, stepping aside to let the troopers escort him out into the cold night air.
The room cleared rapidly. Shocked guests hurried out in hushed, hurried whispers, leaving only Dean Harrison, my mother, and me standing on the bloodstained stage.
I sat on the edge of the riser, my hands trembling uncontrollably. Clara climbed the small wooden steps, leaned her cane against the podium, and gently knelt before me. Without caring about the crimson dripping onto her immaculate blazer, she pulled a silk handkerchief from her pocket and pressed it firmly against my forehead.
“Look at you,” she whispered, her eyes brimming with fierce, unbroken pride. “A Master of Science. Top of your class.”
“You were alive,” I choked out, tears finally breaking past my guard. “All those years… he told me you were buried in Cleveland.”
“He kept you under surveillance, Logan. Every school, every job,” she said softly, wrapping both arms around my neck and pulling me against her shoulder. “I had to stay in the shadows until you turned twenty-five, until you completed your degree and gained full legal control over the Vance Family Trust. Dean Harrison helped me hide until today. Arthur tried to frame you for embezzlement tonight because he knew your graduation activated the final audit. He was desperate. He was terrified of you.”
Dean Harrison smiled quietly, picking up my fallen diploma from the floor, wiping off the dust, and handing it directly to me.
Arthur’s empire collapsed within forty-eight hours as federal indictments for insurance fraud, grand larceny, and corporate extortion hit the morning news. But none of that mattered. That night, sitting in an emergency room while a nurse stitched my forehead, my mother held my hand on one side, and my freshly minted degree rested on the table on the other. For the first time in my life, the fear was gone, and the future was entirely mine.
