“He lied about a business trip to confess his affair—while I was standing at his mother’s funeral, holding her will that leaves everything to me.”

Part 3 (FULL ENDING) . Thank you so much!

The afternoon sun broke through the stained-glass windows of the church as we concluded Eleanor’s burial service at the family cemetery. I stood beside the open grave, surrounded by Eleanor’s closest friends, watching the earth gently cover the casket of the woman who had protected me until her very last breath. I placed a single white rose onto the polished wood, promising her that I would handle the coming storm with the dignity she deserved.

I didn’t have to wait long.

Three days later, the front door of our suburban home burst open. Nathan walked in, wearing sunglasses, an expensive linen shirt, and a smug grin. Chloe stood just behind him, dragging two designer suitcases, eyeing my living room like a predator sizing up territory.

“Claire, pack your bags,” Nathan announced loudly, tossing a set of keys onto the marble console. “Chloe and I are taking the house. My attorney is drawing up the papers. Since Mom passed—I saw the obituary online yesterday—I’m liquidating her portfolio, and we’re moving to Palm Beach permanently.”

I remained seated on the sofa, sipping my tea, completely calm. “Did you even visit her grave, Nathan?”

Nathan rolled his eyes, waving a dismissive hand. “Don’t lecture me, Claire. Mom is gone, and the money is mine. You get thirty percent of this house and whatever was in our joint checking account. Be grateful I’m offering you that.”

Chloe stepped forward, crossing her arms with a smirk. “It’s time for you to leave, sweetie. You’re living on Nathan’s dime now.”

Before Chloe could take another step, Arthur Vance stepped out of the study, accompanied by two armed sheriff’s deputies and a court-appointed process server.

Nathan froze, his face draining of color. “Arthur? What the hell is this?”

“Nathaniel,” Arthur said coldly, holding up a certified binder of legal filings. “I am here in my capacity as legal counsel for Eleanor’s estate. And more importantly, as personal counsel to Claire.”

“Cut the crap, Arthur,” Nathan snapped, his arrogance returning. “Execute Mom’s will. Transfer the liquid accounts to my Chase private client account today.”

“There is no transfer for you, Nathan,” Arthur stated clearly. “Eleanor modified her will and trust three weeks ago upon discovering your fraudulent embezzlement of family funds. She disinherited you entirely. Claire is the sole beneficiary of Eleanor’s twenty-four million dollar estate, including the trust, the family properties, and this very house, which was purchased under Eleanor’s family holding company.”

Chloe gasped, stepping back from Nathan as if he were radioactive. “Wait… what? You said you had twenty million coming to you!”

“Shut up, Chloe!” Nathan screamed, lunging toward Arthur, but the two deputies immediately blocked his path, their hands resting firmly on their belts. Nathan’s eyes bulged with panic. “That’s impossible! She can’t do that! I’m her only son! I’ll contest it! I’ll tie this up in court for ten years!”

“You won’t,” Arthur replied smoothly, handing a legal summons to the process server, who thrust it into Nathan’s chest. “Because Eleanor also filed a full criminal affidavit detailing your illegal wire transfers and forgery of her signatures. The district attorney accepted the case yesterday morning. Furthermore, your private lenders in Manhattan were notified two hours ago that your collateral no longer exists.”

Nathan’s phone began vibrating wildly in his pocket. He pulled it out with trembling hands, staring at the screen in pure terror as three different numbers flashed relentlessly. The walls were closing in on him completely.

“Claire, please,” Nathan pleaded, his voice breaking into a pathetic whimper as he dropped to his knees on the hardwood floor. “We’ve been together seven years. You love me. You can’t do this to me. I was confused… Chloe manipulated me!”

Chloe scoffed in disgust, grabbed her suitcases, and walked out the front door without looking back.

I stood up, walked over to Nathan, and looked down at the man who had abandoned his dying mother and betrayed our marriage without a second thought.

“Eleanor gave you every chance to be a good man, Nathan,” I said softly, my voice steady and resolute. “You chose greed. Now you get to live with the consequences.”

The deputies escorted Nathan off the property while he sobbed hysterically on the lawn, clutching his useless paperwork. Standing on the front porch, I watched the police cruiser pull away into the distance. For the first time in years, the air felt clear, light, and full of peace. Eleanor had freed me, and I was finally ready to live.
